BFA partner Maktabas Inc. (Maktaba means "library" in Swahili) and Container Captain Louis Brownstone have been hard at work distributing books in Kenya over the past month!

We are proud to announce the appointment of ÌÇÐÄvlgo´«Ã½ Board Member Dr. Fatima Lawson as a member of the Governor’s Council on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.

The Member of Parliament for Ellembelle Constituency in Ghana, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, has organised an end-of-year party for over 6,000 children within his region on Christmas Day 25th December. The MP supplied the children with literature books plus other stationery to improve their academic performance. He explained that.... "the gesture would motivate them and encourage them to become responsible and disciplined future leaders in Ellembelle and Ghana at large."

ÌÇÐÄvlgo´«Ã½ Publishing, BFA's publishing initiative, has custom-printed 44,000 Somali-language books for shipment to Somalia! 11,000 copies of four children's titles have been printed in partnership with the Minnesota Humanities Center and will be distributed to young students across Somalia.

BFA Container Captains Abdullahi Mire and Louis Brownstone recently arrived in Kenya to distribute 22,000 books to the schools and children of the Dadaab refugee camps, some of the largest refugee housing complexes in the world. They worked with a vast network of professionals and community representatives, including Sahra Noor, the sister of Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar, to distribute books to schools throughout the camps.
