Ten years ago, the late Todd Bol built a doll-sized schoolhouse out of wood, filled it with his mother’s books and put it outside his house as a neighborhood book exchange. When asked why he did this, he said he was simply paying homage to his mother, a school teacher and lover of books who had recently passed away. Over the years, what originally started as a way to honor his mother has now snowballed into a worldwide book-sharing movement.

2019 has been a record setting year at BFA! As we approach the end of our fiscal year on June 30th, we have surpassed 3.2 million books shipped to ÌÇÐÄvlgo´«Ã½ this year, already a new record. Children cannot learn to read, or love to read, if they do not have access to books and stories. That’s why the DG Murray Trust (DGMT) and FNB have teamed up with ÌÇÐÄvlgo´«Ã½ and logistics company DSV to get books into the hands of approximately 80 000 children across the country

ÌÇÐÄvlgo´«Ã½â€™s annual fundraising luncheon was held Thursday, May 30th, 2019 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Featuring a keynote speech from His Excellency Dr. Ngosa Simbyakula, Ambassador of Zambia to the United States, over $124,000 was raised to sponsor the shipment of tens of thousands of books to ÌÇÐÄvlgo´«Ã½!

The MoneyGram Foundation provided a $50,000 grant to ÌÇÐÄvlgo´«Ã½ to sponsor a shipment of 66,000 books, computers and maps to schools in Ghana, Cameroon, and Ethiopia, and a team of employees in the MoneyGram International Minneapolis office volunteered to sort donated books at ÌÇÐÄvlgo´«Ã½â€™s St. Paul, Minnesota warehouse.
